Life in Logan Circle, DC
Logan Circle keeps two clocks running at once.
One is slow and Victorian: a grassy circle laid out in the late 1800s, crowned by a bronze equestrian of Civil War general John Logan unveiled in 1901, ringed by some of the most intact Victorian rowhouses in Washington. The Logan Circle Historic District was placed on the National Register in 1972 and is protected under District law, which is why the facades still largely reflect the 1880s and 1890s.
The other clock is fast. A block west, 14th Street NW runs as one of the city's most active corridors, restaurants and design showrooms, a full-service Whole Foods, the Studio Theatre, gyms and bars, most of a day's needs within a few walkable blocks. Four Metro stations sit within reach. The result is a neighborhood that reads historic and lives current, and a market that prices the difference.
