Life in McLean, VA

McLean sits in Fairfax County, ten miles from Washington, DC. The land was part of the Northern Neck Proprietary held by the 6th Lord Fairfax of Cameron nearly four centuries ago, and Salona, the estate that still stands here, sheltered President James Madison during the War of 1812 before serving as a Union headquarters in the Civil War. One of the oldest suburbs in the Washington area, it is still being built on, and its housing runs from new luxury construction to much older buildings. The McLean Metro station puts the capital within a short ride, which is what draws professionals who commute into the city. Its public schools are among the highest ranked in the state.
