Life in Potomac, MD
Potomac is defined by its land: large lots, long drives, and houses set well back from the road. The village at its heart is small and unhurried, a crossroads that has been a crossroads since 1714, when it was called Offutts Crossroads, and took the name Potomac in 1881.
Around it the roads run long between gateposts, and the houses sit back among the trees.
It is horse country, and it means it. The Potomac Hunt has ridden this ground since 1931, the county keeps thousands of horses across a hundred barns and more, and a protected agricultural buffer holds the rural edge in place.
