Life in Vienna, VA
The Town of Vienna is a small, incorporated municipality of a few square miles inside Fairfax County, with its own mayor, council, police and public works, which is unusual for this stretch of Northern Virginia. A Vienna mailing address does not necessarily fall within the Town of Vienna. It has a main street, Maple Avenue, which is also State Route 123, and an older heart along Church Street.
As Tysons rose a few minutes north into towers and the county filled with subdivisions, Vienna kept the machinery of an actual town: a green that holds free summer concerts, a long-running Memorial Day festival, a farmers market, and a holiday stroll down Church Street.
It is a detached-house town almost end to end. The overwhelming majority of homes are single-family houses on their own lots, with townhouses and the occasional small condo building clustered near Maple Avenue and the Metro edge rather than through the residential blocks.
