Life in Wesley Heights, DC
Wesley Heights feels set apart because of elevation and old trees, not because of walls. The ridge climbs above the river, and much of the canopy was standing before the houses were.
In the 1920s the W.C. & A.N. Miller Company laid its streets along a wooded ridge west of the young university, kept the oaks and tulip poplars where it could, and built houses substantial enough to hold their own beneath them. A century on, the arrangement stands: deep lots, long setbacks, and a mature tree canopy overhead in summer.
Two parks bracket the neighborhood, Battery Kemble to the west and the Glover-Archbold ravine to the east, so the quiet is structural, not incidental. Houses here change hands slowly, and public inventory is usually short.
